Social Media has transformed the way people view and interact with businesses and brands.  There are over 3 billion people around the world using social media on a daily basis.  It is vital in this day and age that your business has an active presence on social media.  Setting up and managing social media for your business can have a bit of a learning curve but its so worth it!

Literally.  There are over 3 billion people around the world on social media!  (that fact bears repeating).  This gives your small business unprecedented access to all. of. the. people.  Most social media users log into their accounts at least once a day, with the majority checking in multiple times. A great question to ask yourself is ‘How Can I afford to not be on social media’?!

Though, It’s important to understand that not all people are on all platforms.  Every platform has its own personality and user stats so its important to be on the correct ones for your business.  You will need to be aware of who and where your audience is.  You can learn about the different platforms and their stats here.

Think about it.  How many brands and businesses do you personally follow?  Do you find yourself engaging with brands or buying from businesses simply because you love them on social media?  More people follow brands on social media then they do celebrities.  If done right you can create a loyal tribe of brand enthusiasts.  71% of people say they would recommend a brand to their friends if they have a good experience with it on social media.

You also have the ability to respond immediately to any issues.  We’ve all seen it.  Someone has a bad experience and the first thing they do is hop onto social media and put that company on blast.  Or they have an amazing experience and head on over to thank the company for being simply delightful.  In either situation you can help control the story by responding to and engaging with your followers!

Now, with social media, anyone can reach there intended audience fast and on the cheap.  I mean, you could do it for free just with your organic growth.  Paid ads on platforms like Facebook are another way to go and they can be done relatively cheaply and with huge results.

One of the greatest things about social media is that it acts as an amazing funnel.  If you have a great social media strategy and keep your audience engaged and entertained, then when you have a really great blog post, or promotion, or new product you can use your social media channels to funnel to wherever you want your followers to go.  Pinterest can be a huge driver of traffic to blogs and websites.  So can Twitter and Facebook! All this traffic will lead to the next reason.

Like I mentioned above, social media provides a fantastic means of funneling your followers to where you want them to go.   You can funnel people off of your social channels and onto your email list!  Having an email list is key because:

  • You own it!  No one can take it from you.
  • Anyone who signs up is already most definitely interested in what you have to say.  The trust is already built.
  • You have the means to get in touch with your email list whenever you want!  No silly algorithms to deal with.

68% of people say they are more likely to buy from brands that they follow.  Some platforms are better than others for driving sales (I’m looking at you Pinterest) but all platforms if done correctly can build trust with a brand or business thereby resulting in increased sales (if that’s your goal).

By being active on social media you will improve your SEO and appear in more searches.  The big social media platforms obviously show up in the first page rankings a lot and they are a great way to connect with people in a more social way then your website.  Your profiles will do more than just give people information about your business or products.  They will let them feel as though they are talking to a human, not a company or brand.

Google is not the only place people go to search.  I know, your probably like what?!  But its true.  There are millions of searches a day on Facebook alone.  So if your not there you wont be found. Get it?
